Kim Brown Sims knows intimately the intricacies of both the bedside and the boardroom. With her adept wit, her infectious, strategic positivity, and her no-B.S. straight-talk, she points the way towards a future that is more impactful, more just, and more equitable for all.

Kim has served in chief executive leadership roles with multiple healthcare systems, start-ups and advisory boards. She holds a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Leadership, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and multiple professional board certifications and achievement awards including Board Certification as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Kim is the immediate past president of the California Association of Healthcare Leaders, the president of the Board of Directors of Mentis, Napa’s Center for Mental Health Services, vice president of the National Executive Board of Women in Healthcare, and a member of the Racism in Healthcare Taskforce with the American Nursing Association.

An experienced c-suite healthcare executive, clinician, consultant, and educator, Kim has a passion for igniting the fire within. Her expertise in lean theory application and her real-world roots led her to build a diverse team at KBS Leadership Consulting, bringing on-the-ground solutions to corporations willing to rebuild with a future-facing approach. Kim’s team focuses on workforce engagement, strategic planning, and leadership development with the key components being equity and inclusivity. Kim is in talks with major publishers about her upcoming book, “Pricked: Healing the Heart of Healthcare” (Fall 2021) and in April she will be releasing Season One of the “Healing the Heart of Healthcare” podcast . In her “Pricked” presentation, Kim speaks to a wide range of general and corporate audiences with humor and passion about the “pricks” that have held her back, the “pricks” that she has given as a nurse, and how the “pricks” in our lives can inspire great, powerful, and urgent action.

In her spare time, Kim enjoys travel with her daughter, paddle boarding, yoga, cycling, photography and being outdoors among the vine or at the beach.

 

 

Don Orndoff, Senior Vice President, Kaiser Permanente

Don Orndoff is senior vice president of National Facilities Services at Kaiser Permanente, one of America’s leading health care providers and not-for-profit health plans, with an annual operating revenue of $85 billion. Often referred to as the model for the future of health care, Kaiser Permanente serves more than 12 million members. Founded in 1945, Kaiser Permanente pioneered the integrated delivery model, which, through a partnership between the health plan, hospitals, and Permanente medical groups, delivers high quality, coordinated care to members. This coordinated care delivery model enables sharp focus on prevention and affordable health care through the use of evidence-based medicine and industry-leading technology.

Orndoff is accountable for Kaiser Permanente’s 90 million-square-foot real estate portfolio, including more than 1,300 facilities and parking structures, with a replacement value of over $39.7 billion. He oversees an annual capital program of $3 billion, and an annual operating budget of $1.5 billion.

Orndoff leads National Facilities Services (NFS), a national organization of approximately 2,500 people, who provide products and services to support the complete facilities management life-cycle. Organized into four collaborative business lines, NFS supports Kaiser Permanente’s business strategies with facilities planning and design, construction acquisition, real estate acquisition, and facilities operations and maintenance.

Orndoff oversees Kaiser Permanente’s energy strategy, which focuses on reducing energy intensity and pursuing green power opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He has committed to spending millions of dollars each year with construction suppliers that are owned by minorities, women, and veterans to support Kaiser Permanente’s continued commitment to diversity.

Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente in 2010, Don served in the federal Senior Executive Service as director of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Construction and Facilities Management in Washington, D.C. Prior to his work with the VA, he served as a commissioned officer for more than 29 years in the Civil Engineer Corps of the U.S. Navy, retiring at the rank of captain.

Orndoff received his Bachelor’s of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and a Master’s degree in Construction Engineering from University of California, Berkeley. He also received Executive Business Management training from Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School.

He is a licensed registered architect in Virginia, and a member of the American Institute of Architects, National Institute of Building Sciences, and Healthcare Facilities Institute.

 

Nichole Wilson, DPT, MBA, FACHE
Vice President of Integrated Primary Care, Community Health Network

Dr. Nichole Wilson is Vice President of Integrated Primary Care and Ancillary Services for Community Health Network. She is the senior executive directing the operations and strategy for the following ambulatory divisions: primary care, pediatrics, urgent care, occupational health, retail medical clinics, virtual care, imaging, physical/occupational therapy, sports medicine, sleep/wake services, infusion, health promotions, employer health services, and school health partnerships. Collectively, these service lines generate over $500 million in revenues annually. Additionally, she is responsible for developing and implementing innovations and experiences focused on consumerism and retail in the healthcare setting. Wilson is a board-certified Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and is a member of the National Association of Health Services Executives, Executive Women in Healthcare, the American Physical Therapy Association, and the National Association of Parliamentarians. In 2018, she was one of six healthcare executives across the nation to be selected for the prestigious Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program through the ACHE. She was awarded the 2020 Regent’s Award from ACHE, which recognizes the top healthcare executives across the state of Indiana. Most significantly, Modern Healthcare Magazine honored Wilson as one of the Top Minority Healthcare Executives to Watch across the nation as a part of their Top 25 Minority Executives awards program in 2020.

Wilson’s dedication to service and philanthropy is evident through her board involvement with the Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, the Indianapolis Public Safety Foundation, the African American Legacy Fund of Indianapolis, the Madam Walker Legacy Center, the DePauw University Board of Visitors and the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Program. She has also received numerous awards for her renowned goodwill and professional accomplishments. Most notably, she was recipient of the Women of Influence Award from the Indianapolis Business Journal, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Center for Leadership Development, the Champion of Diversity Award from the Indiana Minority Business Magazine and was listed as
one of the Top Business Executives under 50 by Diversity MBA Magazine.

Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from DePauw University, master’s and doctoral degrees in physical therapy from University of Indianapolis, and a Master of Business Administration from Purdue University.

 

Jasmine Ballard Professional,
Administrative Director, Levine Cancer Institute, Atrium Health

Jasmine has been a leader with Atrium Health for over 12 years. She is currently the Administrative Director at Levine Cancer Institute. In her role, she has operational and strategic responsibility for five centers in the southern region of the Charlotte Metro area.

These operations provide medical oncology, surgical oncology and infusion services encompassing a team of 100 teammates and physicians and 73,000 annual patient visits. Jasmine received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Howard University and Master of Health Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill.  She is a member of National Association of Healthcare Executives, where she served on the Executive Board from 2017- 2019 and is member of American College of Healthcare Executives. Jasmine currently serves on the A Dancer’s Heart Executive Board, Mind Body Baby Board of Directors, and recently joined the North Carolina School of Science and Math Alumni Board.

In her free time, Jasmine enjoys spending time with her family, including two energetic daughters, Nyla and Elianna, is a hobby metalsmith and enjoys reading books in all genres.

 

James S. Gordon, MD, author of Transforming Trauma: The Path to Hope and Healing, is a Harvard-educated psychiatrist and the founder and executive director of The Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, D.C. Dr. Gordon is internationally recognized for using self-awareness, self-care, and group support to heal population-wide psychological trauma. He is a clinical professor at Georgetown Medical School, and was chairman (under Presidents Clinton and GW Bush) of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy.
